When we think of possible problems a homeowner faces during the summer, plumbing issues may not readily come to mind. With all the activities planned out for the warmer months, many of you must be busy. But this is the best time to get ahead of potential plumbing problems since there are a number of problems that occur during these months that are not usually present at other times of the year.
Here are the some of the most common plumbing issues that happen during the summer. Make sure you’re on top of thing and don’t let these problems ruin your summer fun.
Washing machine issues
Theme park escapades, road trips, cookouts and a lot of other outdoor activities, all of these are super fun but it also translates to a basket full of clothes to wash.
Check the hoses for any cracks or leaks to prevent a flood in your house. Also, do not leave the house or sleep while the washer is running so you can easily stop the cycle when something goes wrong.
Clogged garbage disposal
If you’re having lots of cookouts this summer, your garbage disposal will be getting a lot of use.
Do not pour cooking oil or dirty grease down the drain as it can cause serious clogging. Hard fruits and vegetables such as corn and watermelon can damage the blades. Be careful what you put into your garbage disposal and you may be able to avoid needing a plumber this summer.
With the kids at home, household toilets will be used more regularly, and the chances of a clog happening are much higher. This is especially true if they use too much toilet paper.
To prevent this problem, teach everyone to limit toilet paper use and explain to the little ones that certain things, particularly toys, should not be flushed down the toilet.
